Orderly book kept at Cambridge (Mass.) by Adjutant Daniel Tyler (and others) of the 3rd Connecticut Regiment of 1775 from 14 June - 11 Sept. 1775 during the Battle of Bunker Hill and the siege of Boston. Includes general orders from George Washington and Artemas Ward; brigade and division orders from Israel Putnam; regimental orders; muster rolls, ammunition disbursements, and returns for Capt. Jedidiah Waterman's (First) Company. Subjects include army organization, troop movements, supplies and provisions, and soldiers' behavior. Also contains later marginal notes, 1779-85, on farming and people.

In response to the expansion of the Continental Army the number of staff was increased and reorganized in 1776. Changes included the creation of a new unit to supplement George Washington's personal staff. This special unit, the Commander in Chief's Guard, was formed on March 12, 1776 with Captain Caleb Gibbs (formerly adjutant of the 14th Continental Regiment and appointed Aid to Major General Greene) as commander.
